Nancy Sinatra Sr., first wife of Frank Sinatra, dies at 101

Frank and Nancy Sinatra in 1946

Frank married Gardner, while Nancy went on to raise their children, Nancy, Frank Junior, and Tina.

According to CNN, her death also notably comes out around two decades after her husband's, who died of a heart attack in 1998 at the age of 82.

Nancy Sinatra has just posted a short time ago on the Sinatra family website sad news that her beloved mother Nancy Barbato Sinatra, has passed away at the age of 101.

Nancy Sinatra was divorced from her husband after he had a string of affairs.

"My mother passed away peacefully tonight at the age of 101".

Sadly, the marriage eventually crumbled as Nancy filed for a legal separation on the grounds of his mental cruelty amid reports that he embarked on another affair, this time with Hollywood icon, Ava Gardner, and they were divorced by 1951.

Nancy Sinatra Senior was born as Nancy Barbato on March 25, 1917 and met Frank in 1934 at the New Jersey holiday resort of Long Branch.

They continued to live in Jersey City, where their first two children were born, before moving to Los Angeles after Frank became one of the most popular singers in the country. Nancy worked as a secretary while Frank worked as both a singer and a waiter. "Godspeed, Momma. Thank you for everything".

In 1944, after Frank had become a pop music star, the family moved to Toluca Lake, Calif. from their Jersey City home, and had a third child, Tina, on June 20, 1948.

She also remained friendly with her ex-husband, who is said to have put in requests over the years for pasta and other Italian food dishes she was known to be an expert at preparing.

After he divorced Gardner, Sinatra went on to marry Mia Farrow and then Barbara Marx. She never re-married.

Gay Talese, in 1966, wrote there was "no bitterness", and instead, only "great respect and affection" between Frank and Nancy.
