New voice, video calling feature goes live

WhatsApp group voice and video calls

WhatsApp users are claimed to be spending over 2 billion minutes on calls per day, meaning the group video calls was a highly-anticipated feature.

With the latest update, both Android and iOS users can now hold audio and video conversations with up to four people.

Users can simply start a video call and tap the "add participant" option on the top right-hand corner of the screen to add more contacts to the ongoing call.

That's why group support on WhatsApp is so important to so many - and now you can enjoy it on Android and iOS starting today. The feature is now live and available for all.

A maximum of four people can be added in a group call. Many small and mid-sized companies use Skype for video conference calls, but a lot of users are unhappy with the way Microsoft has been developing their platform. Of course, there's the difference that WhatsApp requires a phone number for each account. Also, the calling has been created to work reliably around the world in different network conditions, according to the company. WhatsApp says that the new feature is engineered to work under slow network conditions. The Mark as Read button on WhatsApp Beta finds its place in the notifications panel where it will allow the users to mark a particular user's messages as seen without needing to open the app.

Do note that group calls have a four-member limit, so you can't conduct a large-scale meeting via this route. This is all for now, folks.
