Obama loses millions of followers in Twitter purge

Twitter announced earlier this this week that it was going to purge suspicious, locked and inactive followers for millions of its users.

Singer Katy Perry, whose account is the most-followed on Twitter, lost 1.5 million followers, dropping 1.4 percent to 108.1 million followers, Variety disclosed.

Barack Obama was also a victim of the Twitter purge as he ended up losing around 2 million followers, but he's still well over 100 million.

"Though the most significant changes are happening in the next few days, follower counts may continue to change more regularly as part of our ongoing work to proactively identify and challenge problematic accounts", Gadde wrote.

However, some of Twitter's biggest users, including Trump, saw huge drops in the numbers of their followers Thursday after the purge, Variety reported.

The size of the drops were not directly correlated to the amount of initial followers.

Trump Administration Slashes ACA Navigator Outreach Program -- And For Good Reasons
As for the priority given to applicants that help spread the word about non-ACA health plans, Edwards said: "It's inappropriate". The payments were created to stop insurers from losing money on very sick patients, who cost the most to treat.

YouTube's official Twitter handle witnessed a 2.8 percent dip and now has 70.39 million followers. "In these situations, we reach out to the owners of the accounts, and unless they validate the account and reset their passwords, we keep them locked with no ability to log in".

The social site had warned that users with larger follower counts will experience a significant drop it moved to delete invalidated accounts.

What do you think of Twitter's attempt to ensure "meaningful and accurate" follower counts?

Reham Khan, who just released her book today lost just 9k followers which is quite a small figure as compared to the expected loss she could have experienced considering the hate she was experiencing after her book got published.

Unilever was among the major companies that threatened in February to pull advertising from social-media services, including Twitter, because of a rise in hate speech, abusive content and fake news. "Twitter understands this may be hard for some, but it believes accuracy and transparency will make the platform a more trusted service for public conversation".
