[Rumour] Apple To Drop Headphone Jack On Upcoming Smaller iPad Pro

6.1-inch Apple iPhone 9 Reportedly To Sport Full Active Display With Ultra-Thin Bezels

The third phone Apple is rumored to launch this year, the 5.8-inch iPhone, isn't shown, but it's likely to be more or less identical to the current iPhone X. With the 2018 iPad Pro models, however, the connector is expected to change both its location and design, which could allow for some interesting new things, such as docking the iPad vertically into a Smart Keyboard.

The report also claimed that the new iPad Pros will adopt Face ID, which is something that has been asserted repeatedly. The 10.5-inch model is said to measure 247.5mm (H) x 178.7mm (W) x 6mm (T), which is more compact when compared to the current iPad Pro's 250.6mm x 174.1mm x 6.1mm. Apple is working with Japan Display to produce these full-screen LCD panels with a new generation touch sensor as well. Well, according to the report, the company might get rid of the Home button and instead offer the FaceID tech that came with the iPhone X. Apple is not expected to ship the new iPad Pro models with a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter, which would be in line with analyst predictions suggesting that adapter will not come with the 2018 iPhones either. The iPhones are 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch respectively. The end result is that the upcoming iPad Pro will have smaller bezels all around; this unfortunately also results in the removal of the audio jack for the large iPad.

First noted by 9to5Mac, the report gives us some idea about the possible dimensions of the iPad Pro models. Obviously the fact that it killed off cheaper better headphones from rivals didn't enter into it. Apple can't be facing the same space constraints in the iPad Pro. However, the FaceID system will only be able to scan faces in the vertical mode - no support for landscape face detection. The setup could be placed somewhere near the Lightning connector.

There have also been other reports stating that Apple may be adding another model to the iPad Pro lineup, one with an 11-inch display, and also a newer keyboard.
