Scott Pruitt resigns: Trump's scandal-ridden EPA chief steps down

Kristin Mink the mother of a 2-year-old said she

A woman confronted Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt at a Washington restaurant and urged him to "resign before your scandals push you out".

A senior administration official said Pruitt is "inching forward to the tipping point", but ultimately Pruitt's standing at the EPA depends on President Donald Trump.

Minka, who is a schoolteacher according to her Facebook profile, lists off multiple scandals Pruitt has been ensnared in since becoming EPA chief, including the rental of a Capitol Hill condo owned by the wife of an influential lobbyist.

Trump announced that EPA Deputy Andrew Wheeler will step in as acting Administrator starting next week.

Pruitt's direct appeal to the President has not been reported previously. He is facing at least 14 federal investigations that accuse him of misuse and overspending government funds of EPA, etc. In the post, Mink encourages people to support the Sierra Club's online campaign aimed at pressuring senators to call for Pruitt's resignation.

The departure marked a precipitous fall for Pruitt, who during his roughly 16 months in office took steps to reverse more than a dozen major Obama-era regulations and overhauled key elements of the agency's approach to scientific research.

Mr Trump, whose decision to quit the Paris climate accords was vociferously defended by Mr Pruitt, may be changing his mind now though with November's mid-terms looming and Democrats knocking his pledges to "drain the swamp" of Washington graft. Pruitt defended himself against numerous allegations, saying that people are creating controversy because they are against his and the administration's agenda at EPA.

President Trump tweeted Thursday, July 5, he accepted the resignation of Pruitt.

The agency has also defended the increased cost of his travel from first-class flights and 24/7 security detail, citing increased threats against him compared to previous administrators. While Trump has privately acknowledged that the EPA chief has created a slew of bad headlines, there is no plan to dismiss Pruitt right now, according to several sources inside the White House.

"There was never a moment of doubt", Kristin Mink told WBAL NewsRadio 1090's Troy Johnson.
