Thunderstorms could prevent some skygazers from seeing the ‘blood moon’ eclipse

A blood red moon lights up the sky during a total lunar eclipse seen from Auckland in 2015. The moon will take on a red

The total phase of the eclipse will last for 1 hour and 43 minutes, while the entire eclipse, including the partial phases, will last for over six hours.

In what EarthSky describes as a "one of the sky's wonderful coincidences", the eclipse will also take place as Earth passes between the Sun and Mars. Also known as a blood moon, this occurs when the sun, Earth and moon align perfectly, putting the moon in the Earth's shadow. For those watching on Earth, the moon appears to cover the sun, with a ring of the sun's light surrounding the moon.

ALTHOUGH we don't usually see it, the Earth casts a long shadow out into space opposite the sun.

Professor Schulze-Makuch believes it is possible a meteroite could have blasted off Earth and transported similar life to the moon. "Astrology is not something we follow".

The Delta Aquariids meteor shower peaks on July 30, but the light pollution from the moon will make it hard to see numerous dimmer meteors on the night that the shower reaches its peak. During Friday's eclipse, the moon will be passing nearly directly through the middle of the shadow, maximizing the time that moon spends in darkness. That same day, parts of the world will see a total lunar eclipse. Unfortunately for billions of people across the rest of the planet, however, their corners of the Earth won't be facing the moon at the time, so they'll miss out on the astronomical event.

In addition to the lunar eclipse, the planet Mars will be at its brightest since 2003 and be directly below the moon. At a Total Lunar Eclipse, Moon takes about an hour to become completely immersed in the Umbra.

If you saw the most recent solar eclipse (full or partial), you'll remember that the circle of light looks colorless.

New Aston Villa owners arrive at Villa Park for crunch Bruce talks
It sent them into a spiral after it was revealed then-owner Tony Xia had been struggling to fund Villa since last August. Villa were in desperate need of investment after losing the Sky Bet Championship play-off final 1-0 to Fulham in May.

"On July 27th, a total lunar eclipse will be visible in Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe and South America", NASA said.

While the eclipse will begin at 10.44 pm in India (17:14 UTC), the total phase will extend from 1 am to 2.43 am (19:30 to 21:13 UTC).

Southern star-gazers are about to get a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse at a "blood moon" like no other.

From Newbury, the moon will rise just after 8.50pm, already fully in the Earth's shadow. This region will be the best view of the Eclipse.

With the support of Vodafone Malta, the astronomers plan to transmit a YouTube live feed of the eclipse through the telescope, to make this celestial wonder accessible to all local, as well as foreign, news outlets and enable themto cover the event accordingly.

The astronomy expert told Express.co.uk: "Although the moon is in the shadow of the Earth, that is no direct sunlight is expected to hit the moon, the sun illuminates the Earth's atmosphere and that causes some of the sunlight to be scattered in the direction of the moon". This scale is intended for unaided-eye estimates: Zero on Danjon's scale is a very dark eclipse, One is a dark grey or brownish eclipse, Two is a deep red or rust-coloured eclipse, Three is a brick-red eclipse and Four is a bright copper-red or orange eclipse.
