Trump, May roll their eyes when asked about president's shocking interview

She said: "Trade is one of the top items for discussions between the president and the PM today and we are confident that we can do a good trade deal with the US".

US President Donald Trump said a free trade deal with Britain might be impossible if London went ahead with Prime Minister Theresa May's proposals for post-Brexit ties with the European Union, in damaging remarks that could widen domestic criticism of her plans.

The two leaders said they'd complete a trade deal between their countries as soon as the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, after Trump told the Sun newspaper in an interview published Thursday that an accord might not be possible because of her decision to maintain ties with the EU.

In an interview with the Rupert Murdoch-owned Sun newspaper published just hours before he was due to have lunch with May and tea with Queen Elizabeth, Trump chided the "very unfortunate" results of May's Brexit negotiation.

On Friday afternoon, May and Trump were together at a joint press conference after holding previously scheduled talks at the prime minister's country residence Chequers.

He was quoted by the Telegraph as saying: "Theresa May has got a lot of great qualities - I am not sure if it is the right leader at the right time". Just Say No and No To Trump, No To War.

Her pro-Brexit critics within her Conservative party say it fails to wrestle away the EU's reach, undermining Brexit's independence and sovereignty claims.

Interviewed before he left Brussels for the U.K, Trump accused May of ruining what her country stands to gain from its Brexit vote to leave the European Union.

"She is a very smart, very tough, very capable person, and I would much rather have her as my friend than my enemy". "She's a total professional because when I saw her this morning, I said: "I want to apologize, because I said such good things about you".

Saturday is likely to be somewhat different when an official pro-Trump march in London will coincide with another anti-Trump demo.

Filing past palaces of high-end commerce - Apple, Burberry, Brooks Brothers - marchers criticized Trump's policies on immigration, climate change and torture, as well as his treatment of women.

British Prime Minister Theresa May greets United States president Donald Trump at Chequers. "I actually told Theresa May how to do it, but she didn't listen to me".

There were also demonstrations close to Winfield House, the USA ambassador's residence near Regents Park where the president and first lady Melania Trump will spend the night.

The president is expected to avoid areas where major demonstrations are planned in protest at his visit.

Commenting on what he told The Sun about May rejecting his suggestions on how to handle Brexit, Trump said May probably "found it too brutal".

In one of the milder reactions, Universities Minister Sam Gyimah tweeted: "Where are your manners, Mr. President?"
