Trump shares 'very nice' letter from North Korea's Kim

Trump: Kim Will Get 'Rocket Man' CD Later, Plus Surprise 'Little Gift'

President Trump on Thursday said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent him a "very nice note" on future relations between the United States and North Korea, days after the Hermit Kingdom slammed "regrettable" talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's delegation.

"Great progress being made", the president said in a tweet that included both a copy of Kim's letter, dated 6 July, and its translation.

North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-Un, has written a note to U.S. President Donald Trump, describing the American leader as "energetic and extraordinary".

"A very nice note from Chairman Kim of North Korea", Trump tweeted alongside a copy of the letter dated July 6 - the day that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo landed in Pyongyang for what turned out to be hard talks with Kim's regime.

The U.S. leader also cited Pyongyang's release of three American detainees, the North's claim of having destroyed its only known nuclear test site, and a plan to dismantle a missile test site in the country.

The two sides had been expected to meet at the Korean Peninsula's demilitarized zone and discuss the return of US troop remains from the 1950-1953 war - an arrangement the State Department had announced after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to Pyongyang last Friday and Saturday.

"Rocket Man" is a nickname Trump used to mock Kim previous year when the two traded insults over North Korea's testing of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles targeted at the US.

Pyongyang has consistently demanded a more gradual process based on developing mutual trust.

U.S. Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) director Kelly McKeague stated in an interview with Reuters that the agency is "hopeful these discussions on July 12 will lead to further discussions and negotiations directly with the North Koreans by which we can actually get down to the detailed planning".

Mr Trump supposedly asked Kim in their historic June meeting in Singapore if he knew the song, but Kim didn't.

According to the USA report to the UN, North Korea received at least 759,793 barrels of oil products between January 1 and May 30, well above the 500,000-barrel annual quota. The expected North Korean officials never arrived, according to the official who requested anonymity as he was not permitted to talk publicly about the event.

A USA official waited at the border of the village but no North Korean official showed up, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said that the North Koreans postponed the meeting the day it was supposed to take place, reports CNN.

The remains of almost 8,000 US troops remain unaccounted for on the Korean peninsula, and 5,300 of those bodies are believed to be located somewhere north of the demilitarized zone.

On June 20, Trump erroneously said 200 human remains had already "been sent back" from North Korea.

In its report, the United States pointed the finger at China and Russian Federation for continuing to sell refined petroleum products to North Korea.

Finally, one guy noted that Trump had more pressing issues with Kim than something lame like denuclearization. Pyongyang has asked the UN Command Armistice Commission to upgrade the talks to a higher level to include a US general, South Korea's foreign ministry said.
