Trump tweets confidence that Kim Jong Un will denuclearize, honor 'our handshake'

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is not happy with the US

North Korea says it is disappointed with the way the USA has conducted itself in bilateral discussions, saying that the progress made at last month's historic summit in Singapore is in danger of being eroded.

Several weeks after a historic Singapore-hosted meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, both countries remain at odds.

Whether the North will set a concrete time line for denuclearization and honestly declare all of its facilities related to its nuclear and ballistic missile programs will be the very first and perhaps the most important steps for denuclearization, multiple senior officials at the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo have said.

He said the key to Vietnam's rise was post-Vietnam War engagement with the United States, which began in 1985, when the countries started working together to repatriate remains of USA service members lost in Vietnam. "But this expectation and hope of ours was so naive as to be gullible", the statement said.

"The issues the US side insisted on at the talks are all roots of troubles, which the previous administrations also had insisted on to disrupt the dialogue processes, stoke the distrust and increase the danger of war".

He said there were numerous UN Security Council resolutions demanding North Korea hands over its nuclear material.

The foreign ministers of Japan, the United States and South Korea on Sunday reaffirmed their unity in urging North Korea to denuclearize as promised, despite Pyongyang accusing Washington of making unilateral and "gangster-like" demands. But following the stinging commentary from the North, he allowed that the goal of denuclearization would be hard and that much work remains.

The US politician did not meet with North Korea's leader during this visit.

Those include the formation of working group to determine exactly how North Korea's denuclearisation will be verified and a Thursday meeting with Pentagon officials to discuss the return of remains of Americans soldiers killed during the Korean War.

Washington and Pyongyang have presented differing views in recent days on progress on denuclearization following a Trump-Kim summit in June.

After wrapping up his talks in Tokyo, Pompeo yesterday left for Vietnam, where he met with Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi. "(It) will take place at the border and that process will begin to develop over the days that follow", he said as he boarded his plane for Tokyo. 'While we are encouraged by the progress of these talks, progress alone does not justify the easing of the sanctions regime, ' he said.

Pyongyang noted that it had already destroyed a nuclear test site - a concession that Trump has already publicly hailed as a victory for peace - and lamented that Pompeo had proved unwilling to match this with USA concessions. He and Kim Yong Chol met for almost three hours Friday and then had dinner.

"I have confidence that Kim Jong Un will honor the contract we signed &, even more importantly, our handshake", Trump tweeted.

However, asked about the apparent atmosphere at the talks, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert told NBC: "There's a lot of hard work to be done". The accusation came after Pompeo visited Pyongyang and declared that the talks were productive.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (R) and Kim Yong Chol (L). "So, thinking about those discussions you might have not slept well last night".

Pompeo, who spoke with Trump, national security adviser John Bolton and White House chief of staff John Kelly by secure phone before starting Saturday's session, replied that he "slept just fine".

Graham, a Senate Armed Services Committee member, said on "Fox News Sunday": "If I were President Trump, I would not let China use North Korea to back me off of the trade dispute".

How has Mr Pompeo responded?
