Many sports teams that had affiliations with the company have started cutting ties.

No, and late Thursday evening, the Houston Astros showed that it's possible to get this right - at least insofar as standing behind Papa John's as a corporate partner can be described as right.

On Wednesday, Schnatter apologized for using the racial slur during a media relations training call.

After Forbes broke the story, Schnatter's name was swiftly removed from Nachand Fieldhouse in Jeffersonville, Ind., and a spokesperson with Papa John's confirmed to Insider Louisville Friday morning that the company is in the process of pulling Schnatter's image from its marketing and advertising.

Schnatter finally slips and says the N-word out loud.; 2.

In a statement on Wednesday, the company said it condemned "racism and any insensitive language".

The company told the publication it is still working out the exact timing and details as to how it plans to remove Schnatter, who has always been the face of the chain, from advertisements.

After downplaying his comments from November - when he criticized the NFL over its national anthem policy, which prompted him to step down as Papa John's chief executive in January - Schnatter said that "Colonel Sanders called blacks n--s" before complaining that Sanders himself never faced widespread public backlash.

Schnatter has also stepped down as the company's board chairman after apologizing for the comment earlier this week.

Louisville president Neeli Bendapudi announced Friday the school will strip the Papa John's name from its football stadium, renaming it Cardinal Stadium. "From our team standpoint, our partnership is with local owner/operators in Phoenix and completely separate from the national company". Schnatter owns almost 30 percent of the stock.

Papa John's International Inc. began operations in 1984 and had more than 5,200 locations globally. For the first three months of this year, Papa John's said a key sales figure fell 5.3 percent in North America.
