UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson resigns amid Cabinet's deep divisions over Brexit

British Prime Minister Theresa May named Jeremy Hunt to the job of foreign secretary, after the resignation of Boris Johnson on Monday.

The prime minister has warned the Tory party it must unite or face the prospect of Jeremy Corbyn in power.

Otherwise, they believe a disorderly no-deal Brexit beckons - with all the consequences they think that will have in the United Kingdom and across the EU.

David Davis and Steve Baker clearly realised that the promises they and their colleagues made about Brexit simply can not be delivered. This is a point that supporters in the British government of the so-called hard Brexit and the ruling Conservative Party had previously ruled out. "But so many times since this Brexit process began, we've had to ask ourselves: will she stay or will she go?"

"But the popular will, as manifested in surveys of public opinion, suggest that at present about 70 percent of the public judge that the Government is handling the Brexit negotiations badly, and it's been on a declining trend pretty much for the a year ago.

The Prime Minister thanks Boris for his work", said a statement from Prime Minister Theresa May. Hunt's post of health secretary has been taken over by culture, media and sport secretary Matt Hancock, as May struggled to keep control of dissenting voices within her top team. The mess caused by Brexit is the biggest problem in the history of EU-UK relations.

He said many MPs saw Mr Johnson's resignation as a "selfish act".

Admittedly, Mr Rees-Mogg confirmed that the mood was one of sadness at the European Research Group meeting on Monday once Theresa May had announced her Brexit plans to Parliament.

"That dream is dying, suffocated by needless self-doubt".

Her spokesman said she had welcomed the new members of her cabinet and they had discussed the publication of a white paper policy document on Britain's future ties with the European Union and stepping up preparations for any no-deal outcome to the negotiations with Brussels.

She then returned to Downing Street to fill the gaps left on the government benches by several resignations, sparked by the Brexit secretary, David Davis, who stepped down late on Sunday night.

Political uncertainty in Britain makes the possibility of a no-deal Brexit seem far more likely in the eyes of Brussels bureaucrats. But should they ultimately do so, the prime minister also looked to have enough support.

"We negotiate with the negotiators", he said.

"Friday's announcement was turning red lines into a white flag, and David Davis has made that so clear in his resignation letter", Rees-Mogg said.

Mrs May surprised many by appointing him to the Foreign Office, a position he has frequently used to forge a distinctive position on Brexit, including by setting out his own "red lines" just days before the PM's crucial speech to the Conservative conference previous year.
