UK PM May threatened rebels with a national election

The ex-foreign minister said he was unable to support the Chequers plan and is happy to be speaking out against it.

Last week the UK government published a white paper - a report with proposals about the relationship of the United Kingdom and the European Union after Brexit.

The "suggestion" from the the US President on handling Brexit has been at the centre of intense scrutiny since a joint-press conference between the two leaders on Friday where he said it may be too "brutal" for her to adopt.

"If we get distracted by individual amendments to individual pieces of legislation. then I think we get dragged into an unnecessary debate that wastes a lot of time and energy", Foreign Minister Simon Coveney told Ireland's state broadcaster RTE.

The document was published ahead of the first meeting between European Union chief negotiator Michel Barnier and the British government's new Brexit secretary, Dominic Raab.

Though Johnson did not call for May's ouster, his remarks before the pre-recess session, will at the very least remind hardliners of the initial vision behind the referendum.

Theresa May has bowed to pressure from Tory Brexiteers after accepting crucial changes to plans for leaving the European Union.

Johnson says "we must try now because we will not get another chance to do it right".

He argued that the problem was not that Britain had failed to make the case to Brussels for an ambitious free trade deal, but "we haven't even tried".

India 'A' warms up for Test series with a big score
Malan, another current Test player, was the next to go as he was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj for 74 off 158 balls. Once Nadeem cleaned up Malan in the 44th over, Woakes joined Pope as the duo tried to resurrect the innings.

'Instead, we dithered and we burned through our negotiating capital.

Johnson, the former mayor of London seen to have ambitions to be prime minister, is not alone in calling for May to ditch the Chequers plan.

Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May walks to deliver a speech as she opens the Farnborough Airshow on July 16, 2018.

He said Britain had become mired in a fog of self-doubt and that there had been a stealthy retreat over the last 18 months from what he called the "bright certainties" of May's earlier vision of Brexit.

Johnson, who is seen as a potential challenger to May, warned that her plan would leave Britain in "miserable permanent limbo" and was "Brexit in name only".

Moreover, May told reporters a couple hours after Johnson's speech that she hadn't even watched Johnson's address and would be "too busy to catch up on it later".

At a session of parliament, May stood firm after being challenged by one pro-Brexit lawmaker in her party to explain when she had made a decision to change her catchphrase from "Brexit means Brexit", to "Brexit means Remain".

"Some have suggested that we would be prepared to pay "any price" for something, I think that would not be a good deal for the United Kingdom". Pro-leave Andrea Jenkyns asked her during prime minister's questions: 'At what point was it decided that Brexit means Remain?'

He didn't signal an imminent leadership challenge or no-confidence vote today.
