Wimbledon: Angelique Kerber stuns Serena Williams to claim the title

Williams is a seven-time Wimbledon champion and her 23 major trophies rank second all-time to Margaret Court.

Just 10 months after giving birth, Williams can complete an incredible comeback as she bids to become the first mother to win the tournament for 38 years.

When a Williams backhand hit the net the 30-year-old Kerber, who has now won three Grand Slams, collapsed on the dusty baseline before running to the net for a warm embrace with Williams who she lost to in the 2016 Wimbledon final.

"It's obviously disappointing but I can't be disappointed", Williams said. This makes her a steadier player than she was a few years ago.

However, after a torrid 2017 which saw her regain and lose the world number one ranking, surrender her Australian Open title in the fourth round and US Open crown in the first round, Kerber and Beltz parted ways once again.

She made too many unforced errors and uncharacteristically missed simple balls that she would usually put away with regularity.

Duchess of Cambridge beams in white at Prince Louis' christening
The Royal Christening Robe was made in 1841 for the christening of Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Victoria, Princess Royal. As far as Louis is concerned, the baby actually wore the same christening gown that his two siblings wore for their baptisms.

When Williams married her husband, Alexis Ohanian, many questioned why Markle wasn't in attendance, despite the fact that the guest list was star-studded and impressive with guests like Beyonce, Ciara, and Kim Kardashian. "This is literally just the beginning, literally just the beginning".

"I was trying to play my best to play for you guys".

The German, who won the Australian and US Open titles in 2016, added another to her tally with a convincing victory in the SW19 showpiece.

Kerber, cleverly moving Serena into awkward positions, took full advantage, winning four games in a row to wrap up the set. However, her efforts were not enough to reverse the course of the game as the tenacious Kerber regained her composure to seal a 6-3 win in the opening set. I really can't describe it, to be honest.

Serena Williams returns against Germany's Angelique Kerber on July 14, 2018.

Before the women's final begins, the Centre Court crowd will be treated to the conclusion of the men's semifinal between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
