Xbox One July Update Out Now, Adds FastStart And Groups

Xbox One rolls out FastStart feature to speed up downloads

First announced at E3, FastStart "works by identifying which files are needed to begin playing and prioritizes the download of those files first", Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb explained in a blog post.

Scavengers Studio has confirmed that Darwin Project, its survival-infused battle royale game, has now gone free-to-play on Xbox One. Naturally, this isn't ideal, particularly for those who play competitive titles in which getting early access to the game can give you an advantage over your late-coming peers. Your groups will appear under My Games and Apps, in Home, and in the Guide.

Also, Groups are finally available. The update will include "FastStart", which is a feature created to address one of the biggest frustrations of modern gaming: Being forced to wait for your titles to download before you can play them. Moreover, these groups will sync to your Microsoft account, so they'll show up on other consoles that you own. That first group is full of pins.

UI navigation has been enhanced with the ability to invoke the search dialog (even from the Dashboard) by pressing the Y button on your controller. You can earn more fan gifts by levelling up! Not seeing enough results for your search? Full mouse and keyboard support has been enabled for PC users via the Share Controller, and multi-touch support has been enabled for touch devices.

It's also possible that if your connection slows down while FastStart is still downloading a game in the background, you'll need to wait for the download speed to pick back up before you can continue playing.

Today we're having a peek at the insides of the July Xbox Update, and what it means to partake in its greatness.

The update is mostly concerned with making it easier for users to find content, as well as improving Mixer.
