Aretha Franklin gravely ill in Detroit

Aretha Franklin is "gravely ill" at her home in Detroit, as a her family ask for "prayers and privacy" - according to a report from entertainment journalist Roger Friedman's online column Showbiz 411.

The singer was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, though she continued to perform as she dealt with her illness.

Franklin, 76, who has battled a number of health problems in recent years, last performed in November of 2017 at a fundraiser for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in NY.

The National Enquirer published reports in May 2017 of Franklin having lost more than 100 pounds because of a "cancer relapse", an anonymous source told the tabloid. Her last performance as on November 2, 2017 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in NY. She will be so missed as a mother, sister, friend, cousin. Despite her ostensible plans to retire, she was still booked to perform at this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in April but had to pull out of that gig and her 76th birthday show in March per doctor's orders, according to Rolling Stone.
