Aretha Franklin started with gospel, ended with soul at age 76

Aretha Franklin

For six decades, the world had countless opportunities to be stunned by the talent and range of the undisputed Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, who died Thursday at 76 of pancreatic cancer.

In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. "We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin's family and friends", Jessica Santostefano, Vice President, Media Desk at Fox News explained.

Given the impact she has made, her death was openly mourned by fans, celebrities, and even Presidents Barrack Obama and Donald Trump.

Last November, at the age of 75, she gave her final performance at a gala in NY in aid of the Elton John Aids Foundation.

"I saw her here a couple times when she performed at the Apollo theater".

Behind the scenes, the star first became a mother at 12 years old when she gave birth to son Clarence Franklin in 1955. Hailed as the Queen of Soul, the singer was known for her rousing performances - no more apparent than when she took the stage for the 38th Annual Kennedy Center Honors in 2015. We have felt your love for Aretha and it brings us comfort to know that her legacy will live on.

Over the years, Franklin received 18 Grammy Awards and sold tens of millions of records.

There was the time she clapped back at a New York Post columnist who assumed how Aretha related to her bosom.

John was just one of many in the music industry who paid their respects to Franklin. "This will be my past year", Franklin said in an interview with a local Detroit TV station.

""Lady Soul" (1968): Another towering achievement, from the accusatory "Chain of Fools" to the sensual "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman". She will be missed but the memory of her greatness as a musician and a fine human being will live with us forever. She rose to prominence in large part from the 1967 smash hit "Respect", a cover of Otis Redding's song from two years earlier that achieved much greater popularity than the original.

Streisand wrote that it's "difficult to conceive of a world without her" alongside a photo of them together in 2012.

She continued, "And it is in Detroit that I continue to cultivate my career; it is to Detroit that I direct most of my charitable activities; and it is from Detroit that I receive much love and support, which I reciprocate". The following year, Rolling Stone magazine named her the greatest singer of all time. As volatile waitress Mrs Murphy, she got to sing her classic anthem Think, as well as a few lines from Jailhouse Rock. Beyond her tremendous singing voice, she was a voice in the Civil Rights Movement. Her publicist told The Associated Press that she died surrounded by her family and friends.

Correction: This story has been corrected to clearly identify that Aretha Franklin performed at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s memorial service.
