Fallout 76 abandons Steam in favour of Bethesda.net

The upcoming Fallout 76 B.E.T.A. (Break it Early Test Application) won't simply be a vertical slice of the game.

As for the Fallout Beta, you can expect it to be a restricted version of the full game, with whatever progress you make during your time with it to carry through to the retail release.

It was previously announced that expansion DLC for the game will be free, but there will be paid cosmetic items.

"With that in mind, we know you're anxious to learn more about the game and more specifically, about the B.E.T.A". This beta is confirmed to launch early for the Xbox One while the PC and PS4 users will have to wait for a while before they can get access to the beta. Fallout 76 looks to change that, though. They make great games but they're usually riddled with bugs and glitches so to lessen the blow, Bethesda will be holding a beta in October for people who pre-order.

Balderson-O’Connor OH-12 Race Headlines Contests in Five States
Republican Troy Balderson is running with Trump's endorsement in a district the president won by 11 points in 2016. Hours before polls opened, Trump again weighed in on Twitter, casting James as "a potential Republican star".

Steam really has been the platform of choice for Bethesda over the last few years. Fallout Shelter, for example, did not initially launch on Steam.

In the Fallout 76 FAQ it said "Both the B.E.T.A. and the game will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and on PC (via Bethesda.net only)".

The Beta won't be on Steam, meaning that you will have to download another client to play it, much like games found on Uplay, BattleNet or Origin. Fallout 76 seems to be a test run for this strategy, so if all goes well, we'll likely see this practise continue.
