Huawei was caught using a pro camera to fake smartphone photos (again)

Huawei does it again, passes off a professional photo as a selfie from its new phone

As it turns out, though, the photos were taken on a DSLR camera-the type of dedicated (and not-at-all-tied-to-a-smartphone) camera used by professional photographers.

Huawei has once again been caught playing fast and loose with its advertising materials after news that it misrepresented the photography capabilities of its mid-range Nova 3 series emerged.

Sarah Elshamy, who appears in the clip, posted a behind-the-scenes photo to Instagram, which shows herself and another actor in the middle of filming. The pictures reveal that at least one of the "selfie" shots displayed in the video were not taken by a Nova 3 at all, but a powerful DSLR camera. In 2016, it posted a photo on its Google+ page that seemed to hint that a attractive sunrise was taken with the Huawei P9's dual cameras.

He holds out an empty hand towards the lens of the camera to make it look like he's holding a phone. In one instance, the company took to a private Facebook group to encourage followers to write up positive Best Buy reviews of the Mate 10 Pro in exchange for a chance to beta test the then-yet-to-be-released phone.

"These faked ads are really not paying off for Huwaei", another said.

In this Egyptian commercial Huawei tells us about the multiple cameras on the phone equipped with AI that can post process selfies, recognize faces, recognize scenery, and simulate bokeh. Of course, ads are never what they seem and you can expect no small amount of magic behind the scenes.

It's not the first time the company has been caught out using professional equipment while letting customers believe their own devices were used.

A tiny, fine-print disclosure about lenses and retouches appears on the Apple ads; that's not the case with Huawei's ad-and the Huawei photo was clearly not taken on a Huawei phone at all.

Yahoo7 has contacted Huawei for comment.
