‘I’ve never been so happy with him’, Mourinho praises Pogba

United head to the game following a 2-1 victory against Leicester City last week Friday at the Old Trafford.

Pogba will remain captain for the Brighton game, although Mourinho explained that Antonio Valencia will reclaim the armband when he returns to action following a calf injury.

Having starred, and scored, in United's 2-1 victory, just four days after returning to pre-season training following his World Cup adventures, Pogba claimed: "There are things I can not say otherwise I will get fined".

However, Pogba's post-match interview fuelled questions about how happy he was at Old Trafford, with the Frenchman saying: "There are things that I can not say otherwise I will get fined".

When asked whether he was happy at the club following Man United's win over Leicester, Pogba said: "There are things I can not say, otherwise I will get fined".

"It is not easy to be fined here, so you have to ask him". He can not have any bad feelings towards us, because we opened the door for him in case his desire was to go, but it looks like it's not going to end in a transfer and for me it is good news.

The midfielder was reportedly upset with Jose Mourinho's comments on his performances at the finals, in which the manager intimated that he wasn't focused enough at Manchester United.

The 25-year-old, who joined United in 2016 for US$114 million (£89.7 million), has been linked with a big-money move to Spanish club Barcelona following a series of apparent rifts with Mourinho.

'He's working well, playing well, he does for the fans, he does for the team and that's what I want, to play for the team and I couldn't be happier than what I am'. "[They are] fully fit but not yet [ready] to play or even to be selected, I think, and that's it".

"I have to say in his defence, write what you want about him, about me, but please don't say lies".

Mourinho also confirmed that Matteo Darmian is set to stay at Old Trafford despite wanting to return to Italy amid interest from Napoli, Juventus and Inter Milan.

However, the World Cup victor hinted at unrest in the Old Trafford camp when he refused to answer a question about his happiness at the 20-time English champions. I want to play in and win the Premier League, the best league in the world.
