Johnny Depp’s Notorious B.I.G Film Has Release Date Pulled

City Of Lies

For those who don't know, Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker were set to star in City Of Lies, a thriller chronicling the unsolved mystery of The Notorious B.I.G's murder.

The film's distributor, Global Road Entertainment, confirmed to industry press that the film would no longer be released in September and refused to give any further comment. The feature is based on the book "LAbyrinth", which tells the story of the police investigation into the deaths of rappers Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls.

The news of the film's release being pulled comes at a bad time for Depp, who was recently the subject of a damaging Rolling Stone profile. It's directed by The Lincoln Lawyer director Brad Furman. The crew member also claimed that he was sacked from City of Lies after refusing to sign a non-disclosure agreement that would've prevented him from suing Depp.

"In spite of fans voicing their concerns online about his presence in the movie after allegations of physically abusive behavior involving ex-wife Amber Heard emerged, the actor received applause and cheers from the Hall H crowd", says THR. In July, the film's location manager, Gregg "Rocky" Brooks, sued Depp and accused him of assault and battery on the City of Lies set in April 2017.

Assuming that City of Lies remains in purgatory, Depp will be seen next in the upcoming Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts: the Crimes of Grindelwald. He made a surprise cameo at Comic-Con last month in full costume amid speculation he would skip it over the aforementioned controversies.
