Mueller inquiry: White House lawyer McGahn co-operating with probe

White House Counsel Donald Mc Gahn has reportedly been cooperating extensively with Robert Mueller's inquiry

The New York Times reported that McGahn, spoke with Mueller's team about Trump's firing of the Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey and his push for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to claim oversight of the inquiry, and Trump's attempts to fire Mueller.

The Tweet series comes off as more desperate than usual from the President, as he again seeks to view a series of people, from ex-CIA director John Brennan to Hillary Clinton as the real perpetrators of corruption and collusion.

In a separate report, Reuters said a person familiar with the matter did not believe McGahn provided incriminating information about the president and had not seen or heard anything that amounted to obstruction of justice by Trump.

Boston University political analyst Tobe Berkovitz said Trump's claims have merit, calling the comparison of the probe to McCarthyism a "valid point". But he had drawn an analogy to the communist witch hunt once before - when he falsely claimed that President Barack Obama had tapped his phones in Trump Tower.

Giuliani said McGahn's cooperation with Mueller was part of a legal strategy. He added about the Times report, "We think it was leaked to get the President to testify - that he would get angry at (McGahn) the way he did at Omarosa - and would want to testify".

Dean tweeted Saturday night in response to the Times story: "Trump, a total incompetent, is bungling and botching his handling of Russiagate".

It appears President Trump's latest predicament is partly the result of an epic unforced error - and this time, he had nothing to do with it.

This isn't the first controversy to erupt between Trump and his top White House lawyer. "They made up a phony crime called collusion, and when there was no Collusion they said there was obstruction (of a phone crime that never existed)".

Trump used his tweets Sunday morning, which he wrote from his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, to intensify his assault on the special counsel investigation.

"It's somebody's version of the truth, not the truth", he said, telling NBC's Chuck Todd: "Truth isn't truth".

"Time for Mueller investigation to file report", Giuliani wrote on Twitter.

The top lawyer in the White House has been fully cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice in the Russian Federation probe, it has been reported.

It is important to keep in mind that McGahn was permitted to speak with the Mueller team only because the President allowed it and did not assert attorney-client or executive privilege. As counsel to former President Richard Nixon, Dean was involved in the events leading up to the Watergate burglaries and subsequent coverup, but he became a key witness for the prosecution.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller departs after a closed-door meeting with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee about Russian meddling in the election and possible connection to the Trump campaign, at the Capitol in Washington, June 21, 2017.

But Giuliani also seemed to indicate that he was relying on secondhand information, from Trump's former personal attorney John Dowd, to determine the extent of what McGahn had shared with Mueller's team.
