NASCAR chairman Brian France has been charged in Sag Harbor, N.Y., with aggravated driving while intoxicated and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

France was released on his own recognizance at 9:30 a.m. Monday morning after his arraignment in the Harbor Village Justice Court.

France went so far as to name-drop some of his powerful friends, including United States President Donald Trump, during his arrest process, per TMZ. France appeared to be operating his vehicle while intoxicated and officers found oxycodone pills after searching him, police said. France reportedly ran a stop sign in a 2017 Lexus when he was stopped by police.

In a statement to ESPN, the auto racing company said it is aware of the situation and is gathering more information. France endorsed Trump for president at a Georgia rally in February 2016.

NASCAR CEO and Chairman Brian Z. France was arrested Sunday while allegedly driving under the influence and in possession of oxycodone. "We take this as a serious matter and will issue a statement after we have all of the facts". His grandfather William HG France founded the organisation, while his father, Bill Jr, also served as CEO until he stepped down in 2000.

At this time, neither France nor NASCAR appear to have commented on the arrest.
