Parkland suspect: Demon told me to 'burn, kill, destroy'

A judge ordered the school district to release a report about the school history of Nikolas Cruz, who is charged with multiple counts of murder from the February massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

"Why didn't he kill me?"

During the more the 11 hours of questioning, Cruz made statements to Broward County detective about recent issues he was faced with, including the death of his parents and his penchant for killing animals. The recorder inside the room was still running.

According to a review of that meeting featured in the new report, school officials left out one crucial fact: Cruz was still entitled to special assistance at Stoneman Douglas if he chose to stay.

In response, Cruz reportedly said to the detective, "I don't like the demon", over and over.

Cruz also said he tried to kill himself by drinking because he was lonely, and with an over-the-counter pain reliever after his mom died. To me, it's me and then my bad side. Why didn't he kill me?

"The voices", Cruz said. He did not resist arrest.

Secondly, the school district "did not follow through" when Cruz requested to return to the Cross Creek therapeutic school for disabled students, the report states.

"This statement is just more proof of how severely damaged and broken a human being he is", Howard Finkelstein, the Broward County public defender representing the suspect, wrote in an email Monday. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

The 216-page transcript of the statement, which his defense attorneys had sought to suppress, was released Monday by the state attorney's office overseeing the case, under a state judge's order. Video of the confession will be released Tuesday. "When you see me on the news, you'll all know who I am", he said. "You deserve to die".

He alternatively described himself as "stupid" and a "coward".

Sunday. "I spotted the baby. his little head was under the water. his little legs were over", Diana told CBS New York. The baby was later taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

Curcio asked Cruz if he could stop the demon. He estimated spending about $4,000 on weaponry. Cruz couldn't remember exactly, but he didn't want to do it. Curcio asked why he didn't.

"I hear demons. a voice, demon voice", he said, adding that the voice had told to hurt people on the night before the shooting.

Cruz described the voice as a male, about his age, and said the only person he ever told about it was his brother. Just f--ing kill me.

Twice during the interview, Cruz asked for a psychologist, "to find out what's wrong with me".

Cruz was alone in the room at the time but the recorder was still going. According to the report obtained by the Daily Beast, Cruz was not made aware of a fourth option: That he could remain enrolled at Marjory Stoneman Douglas and receive special assistance.

Cruz admitted to taking drugs.

"You could have stopped the demon by getting a prescription for marijuana".

"I'm not", Cruz responded. You could have stopped the demon by getting a prescription for Xanax.

His request effectively ended the police interview.

"You - your - people think you're a monster now", 18-year-old brother Zachary Cruz told him.

It was revealed in May that Broward officials were confirming that Cruz had been assigned to the PROMISE program in middle school after both Runcie and the Broward Sheriff's Office said he did not attend the program "while in high school".
