SCOTUS Nominee Brett Kavanaugh's Confirmation Hearing Scheduled

Judge Brett Kavanaugh was nominated on July 9 spurring intense interest in his work as a White House lawyer and with Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr

Republicans did not request those documents, arguing they were irrelevant to his nomination, but did ask for documents from Kavanaugh's time in the White House counsel. Democrats have complained Republicans are rushing the process for the lifetime appointment without proper vetting of Kavanaugh's record.

Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, (R-Texas), a member of the Judiciary Committee, said the hearings will make it possible for the Senate to commence a floor vote on President Trump's pick before the next term for the Supreme Court begins in October. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said in a statement Friday.

The Judiciary Committee will hold up to four days of review, with Kavanaugh to begin facing questions on Day 2, September 5, said committee chairman Sen.

White House spokesman Raj Shah said Kavanaugh was looking forward to speaking with Congress, reports CNN. "Judge Kavanaugh looks forward to addressing the Judiciary Committee in public hearings for the American people to view".

The chairman said the committee still expects to receive hundreds of thousands of additional pages of documents.

He further touted the nominee as a mainstream judge with a record of "applying the law as it is written".

August 2: Former President George W. Bush revealed he is working with William A. Burck - a right-wing political operative who served as a deputy to Kavanaugh in 2005 and is now the attorney representing Steve Bannon, Reince Priebus, and Donald McGahn in the Russian Federation probe - to vet which documents from Kavanaugh's record are released to the Senate Judiciary Committee. He's met with dozens of senators who have nothing but positive things to say. Kavanaugh spent over five years in the White House under President George W. Bush, first as White House Counsel and then as Staff Secretary, and has more than 4 million documents in his record from that time. "It's time for the American people to hear directly from Judge Kavanaugh at his public hearing", Grassley said in his statement.

Carrie Severino, chief counsel and policy director for the Judicial Crisis Network, which has already launched ads in support of Kavanaugh's confirmation, said the Democrats' anger was just their attempt to stall the nomination.

A September 4 start date for the hearing is 57 days after the announcement of Judge Kavanaugh's nomination.

Breitbart News' Ken Klukowski has pointed out that Kavanaugh's opinions have been in the public domain for years and Kavanaugh "returned the most comprehensive, bipartisan Senate questionnaire in the history of the Judiciary Committee".
