Sony’s PS4 Worldwide Shipments Top 82.2 Million Units

The electronics firm posted profit of 195.0 billion yen ($1.75 billion) for April-June, up 23.7 per cent from 157.6 billion yen a year prior.

"Our fundamental challenge is that competitiveness of our products may not be able to meet top-class levels", said Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki, referring to its smartphone lineup.

Annual sales are projected to rise slightly, with operating profit unchanged.

PlayStation 4 is without a doubt the best console you can opt for at the moment with the likes of upcoming games like Spiderman PS4, you can't make a mistake of choosing something else.

The figures are Sony's first quarterly results under new CEO Kenichiro Yoshida, who replaced Kazuo Hirai in April.

National Archives to review all Kavanaugh records by October, potentially delaying confirmation
The documents could be produced earlier via a separate source: the Bush presidential library, which is conducting its own review. However, it should be possible to get the documents to Senators much more quickly than the Archives review process permits.

Music: Streaming continued to grow, with Spotify last week announcing monthly active users had grown to 180 million, topping estimates. "How much the new games added to profit growth this quarter is important to gauge the rest of the year".

Nevertheless, Sony revised upward its financial projections for the year to March on a weaker-than-expected yen and the solid game business.

As we get closer to the end of the generation, it's obvious console sales start to reduce over time, but it looks like Sony doesn't really worry about that, also thanks to a very strong software lineup coming in the past year of PS4's lifecycle. The camera segment of the company also flushed in cash and made $234 million in profit.

The company also stated that revenue went up by 5.1% to ¥1.95 trillion (~$17.42 billion), highest than the market expectations of ¥1.87 trillion (~$16.71 billion). During the quarter, the company had few surprises to share at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) and also angered gamers over its lack of cross-platform play for Fortnite.

Growth was even sharper, at 61 percent, when excluding the previous year's one-time gain from the sale of Sony's camera module unit and receipt of insurance payouts for quake damage. That boosted royalties received by Sony, sending operating profit up 28% from a year ago to ¥32.1-billion.
