US Believes North Korea Still Building Missiles

That's according to a report by The Washington Post, which cited officials who spoke on condition of anonymity in order to describe classified intelligence.

USA spy agencies suspect that North Korea is building new missiles in the same research facility that manufactured the country's first ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States.

Last week US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said North Korea is continuing to produce fuel for nuclear bombs despite its pledge to "denuclearise".

Indonesian authorities have invited North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to attend the opening ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games, which will run from August 18 until September 2 in Jakarta and Palembang. It is unclear whether Kim will follow through on any of those promises as the country's officials have discussed plans to deceive Washington about their unclear arsenal, according to the Post.

"Until the ink is dry on an agreement it's unrealistic to expect the DPRK to stop its programs", Wit wrote on Twitter on Monday, using the acronym for North Korea's formal name. There will be hiccups, but President Trump's summit with North Korea was a positive step. He declined to say whether Pyongyang is constructing new missiles.

However, John Byrd, a U.S. Department of Defense forensic anthropologist told reporters at the Osan air base in South Korea that there was "no reason to doubt" that the boxes of remains "do relate to Korean War losses", and that at least some are likely American. He said that when an individual is identified, those remains will be returned.

On Friday, North Korea returned the suspected remains of more than 50 United States soldiers killed during the Korean War, taking a step in implementing the June agreement.

Widodo offered in April to host a summit between North and South Korea, after meeting ambassadors from both Koreas.

Since late last month, a series of United States intelligence reports indicating that the North is increasing the production of enriched uranium, a key component for nuclear weapons, have been leaked to the U.S. media.

Pompeo, charged with nailing down the details of the Singapore commitment, traveled to Pyongyang in early July for what apparently was a fruitless visit.

Still, the initial "field forensic review" indicates that the "remains are what North Korea said they were", Byrd said.

Despite the concerns about the North's progress toward abandoning its nuclear weapons, ministers at the forum are expected to strike an upbeat note about the agreement between Trump and Kim.

Just last week, satellite images emerged that appeared to show North Korea dismantling a key Sohae satellite launching station.

Pompeo assured lawmakers that the United States was working toward finding a solution without easing its sanctions against North Korea, but also admitted during his testimony that it was "continuing to create fissile material".
