A Wake Forest assistant basketball coach turned himself into the New York City police Thursday to face an assault charge in connection with an altercation that resulted in the death of a Florida man, according to New York media reports.

Jones allegedly punched the late tourist, identified as Sandor Szabo, early Sunday after he was being disruptive and banging on cars in Long Island City.

Jones was arrested and charged on Thursday for assaulting a tourist in Queens, per a police report obtained by Sports Illustrated. While intoxicated, the 35-year-old proceeded to bang on cars, including Jones' SUV, in search of his ride. Dominic also told the paper that his brother probably thought the vehicle was an Uber.

In a statement, Wake Forest said it would comment further once it gathers more information.

Szabo later died from his injuries, according to the New York Post's David K. Li. He was arraigned today on a misdemeanor assault charge and released on his own recognizance after entering his plea. His attorney, Alain Massena, said in a statement: "The court made the proper ruling with the charges, and the District Attorney's office made the proper ruling with the charges". The head of the victim, Sandor Szabo, "hit the pavement when he fell back and he lost consciousness", NY police said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports.

"The Jones family sends their deepest condolences and sympathies to the Szabo family".

Wake Forest is coached by former National Basketball Association star Danny Manning. He was fun to be with, interesting, and always interested. Szabo never regained consciousness and was taken off life support Tuesday. He was kind, giving, loving and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Jones, 35, of Kernerville, North Carolina, was arrested Thursday.
