Cleveland Browns: Instant Reactions after heartbreaking Week 2

"It's on me 100 percent", Gonzalez said after the game. Gonzalez's first missed field goal attempt from 44 yards sailed wide left, while the last attempt in the waning seconds went wide right. And that was after surrendering a tying, 47-yard touchdown pass from Tyrod Taylor to Antonio Callaway with 1:16 left, a play on which Callaway somehow got behind a secondary that probably was scheming to prevent exactly that kind of play.

Browns lose by 3.

This game was a tragic extension for the Browns, who entered the game cloaked in the latest chapter of the Gordon saga but had every chance to win this road game against a shaky Saints club.

The Saints managed to only have 150 yards of offense through 3 quarters, committed 2 turnovers, and missed a field goal for good measure, and still won anyway.

The Cleveland Browns kicker missed two field goals and two extra points in a 21-18 loss to the New Orleans Saints, with two of those misses coming in the final two critical minutes of the game. They've been awful on defense and lost and mostly terrible on offense and won. Kamara walked in for the 2-point conversion after a pitch right from Brees.

A successful kick would have expanded the Browns lead to 15-3 (Gonzalez was wide left on an extra point attempt in the third quarter). The Saints applied pressure (two sacks by Cameron Jordan, one by Sheldon Rankins), forced their first turnover (Marcus Williams' fourth-quarter interception set up the touchdown that gave the Saints their first lead, at 18-12) and held the Browns to 327 yards. The nine-play, 66-yard scoring drive was kept alive when strong safety Derrick Kindred was called for an illegal contact penalty that negated what would have been defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi's third third-down sack of the game.

They turned a takeaway on the Saints' first possession into a 3-0 lead when Gonzalez made a 39-yard field goal with 8:29 remaining in the opening quarter. After six years, the Browns let it be known they'll part ways with troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon. Then Brees threw an incomplete pass short of the end zone, and the Saints settled for Lutz's field goal.

The Saints (1-1), meanwhile, are evidently unsatisfied with how their season has begun.
