Devin McCourty happy Eric Reid has signed, hopes Colin Kaepernick is next

Former San Francisco 49er Eric Reid signed on to the Carolina Panthers for one year after the 49ers did not resign him, according to ESPN.

Not only has the financial side played into his remaining unsigned but Reid also aligned himself with former teammate Colin Kaepernick, continuing to kneel during the national anthem prior to games. "He's a player who has obviously played at a high level in this league".

"The notion that I can be a great signing for your team for cheap, not because of my skill set but because I've protested systemic oppression, is ludicrous", Reid tweeted in March.

Safety Eric Reid, seen here at right kneeling before a San Francisco 49ers game last November, has signed a new contract with the Carolina Panthers, ending his free agency.

Seal, Octopus, Kayaker Make for Riveting Footage
He said he wasn't sure who got the bigger fright, the octopus, the seal or himself. What happens when you drive a seal too far?

Reid, 26 years old, had played his entire five-year career with the 49ers until he became a free agent this off-season. The Panthers liked what Searcy brought to the table alongside returning starter Mike Adams, but Searcy was placed on injured reserve last Friday after suffering a second concussion in a month.

"We understand you have to change with the times", Reid told reporters then.

Eric Reid's long wait to rejoin the National Football League after having been largely ignored during free agency is over.

He said he later approached Kaepernick and that the two made a decision to kneel during the national anthem "as a peaceful protest". So to say that [they aren't patriotic] makes me so aggravated and angry. Both players had filed grievances alleging NFL teams had colluded to prevent them playing in the league due to their protests created to highlight racial and social injustices, including the shooting of Black men by USA police. I think he's a good player. I just came off the field and as I was coming off the field, I found out he was signed. He has started 69 of 70 regular season games played during his career, tallying 375 tackles, 10 interceptions, 34 passes defenced, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. "I think we're going to take a different approach to how we're going to be active". I don't think it will be in the form of protesting during the anthem.
