Elon Musk Introduces SpaceX’s First Passenger Who Will Fly To The Moon

Cost of the trip

To see the moon up close "was a lifelong dream", he said. He said he wanted to invite artists from various fields including painters, sculptors, photographers, musicians, film directors, fashion designers and architects.

"Please don't say no!", Maezawa added. Maezawa is an avid art collector and recently spent over $110 million on a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat. And he also allowed him to take on his trip eight yet unnamed "artists and cultural figures".

'They will be asked to create something after they return to Earth. He has accused, without proof, one of the cave divers who participated in the rescue of a Thai youth soccer team of being a pedophile.

As of today, only 24 humans - all Americans have traveled from Earth to the moon. The outpost would serve as a stepping-off point for the lunar surface, Mars and points beyond. You have to be pretty loaded to score a tourist spot on a spaceship. The original plan called for two paying passengers to fly around the moon this year, using a Falcon Heavy rocket and a Dragon crew capsule. Going forward, Musk and Maezawa will figure out details like training, but "nothing's written in stone".

Of Maezawa, Elon Musk said "He chose us - we did not chose him".

Musk and Maezawa declined to say how much was paid for this trip.

"This is risky, to be clear". This is no walk in the park, ' Musk cautioned.

The BFR name may also change, Musk said.

While Musk has insisted that the spacecraft is safe, he warned Monday that there "are some chances things could go wrong". He did suggest like maybe that I would join on this trip.

And if you were wondering, "We'll do a bunch of test launches before having any people on board", Musk said. Maezawa said during an announcement Monday evening.

"There could be some natural or man made event that ends life as we know it", he said.

France took an unassailable 3-0 semi-final lead over Spain earlier on Saturday to secure a 19th final appearance. Croatia secured their place in the Davis Cup final with a 3-2 victory over the U.S. in Zadar .

In 2017, Mr Musk announced that he would be sending two paying passengers on a loop around the Moon - which was to have launched as early as this year.

As for the moon, Musk had hoped to sent tourists there later this year, but the date has been delayed, The Wall Street Journal reported in June.

In an interview with the Observer, Maezawa said that while he'd always had a deep interest in art and fashion, he didn't start collecting until about 10 years ago.

The group will blast off in SpaceX's Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), with total costs expected to hit $5 billion. Russian Federation halted its space-tourism program in 2010, after the US retired its space shuttle program, leaving fewer seats available to get working astronauts into orbit.

Musk has said he wants the BFR's vessel to be able to hold around 100 people, and that the launch system could one day be used to colonize the Moon and Mars in order to make humans a "multi-planetary" species.

With SpaceX, Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin and entrepreneur Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic battling it out to launch private-sector spacecraft, the SpaceX passenger will join a growing list of celebrities and the ultra-rich who have secured seats on flights offered on the under-development vessels.

Russian and Chinese companies are also working on space tourism plans.

Musk's successes have recently been overshadowed by his behavior and the struggles of his Tesla electric auto company to deliver.

Last week, video of him smoking marijuana during a podcast appearance sent Tesla shares tumbling.

Maezawa will take the journey on SpaceX's upcoming Big Falcon Rocket as early as 2023.
