Former Miami Dolphin Vontae Davis quits at halftime

Vontae Davis of the Buffalo Bills during pre-game warmups prior to the start of NFLaction against the Los Angeles Chargers at New Era Field

Cornerback Vontae Davis, who signed a one-year, $5 million deal with Bills earlier this year, did something most only dream about.

Davis reportedly changed out of his uniform and walked out of the stadium at halftime.

In addition to a sense of respectability and two games, the Bills appear also to have lost a longtime defensive back.

Buffalo Bills cornerback Vontae Davis retired from the National Football League at half-time in his side's 31-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Davis retired after playing 10 seasons with Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.

"I never have seen that", Alexander said.

After the game, Lorenzo Alexander expressed his displeasure with the timing of Davis' retirement.

McDermott spoke with reporters on Sunday (Monday AEST) after Buffalo's 31-20 loss to the Chargers and explained 30-year-old Davis voluntarily left the game in the first half and did not return. Coming out, they said, 'He's not coming out. Never seen it. It's just completely disrespectful to his teammates.

"This was an overwhelming decision but I'm at peace with myself", it read. But today on the field, reality hit me fast and hard: "I shouldn't be out there anymore", he said in a statement.
