New ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Trailer Is Downright Magical

Emily Blunt is practically perfect in Mary Poppins Returns official trailer

The footage opens on an adult Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw) and his sister Jane (Emily Mortimer) packing up bits and bobs they've kept from their childhood, namely the kite they used to fly with their parents. We'll get to see Mary Poppins flying high above the skies of London with her trusty umbrella soon enough.

When Jane asks what has brought her back, Poppins states that she has come to "look over the Banks children" once again, not only Michael and Jane, but also Michael's kids Georgie and Annabel (Pixie Davies).

The trailer also offers a brief glimpse at some of the musical song-and-dance numbers, with music by Marc Shaiman and songs by Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

A new trailer, poster and photos from Mary Poppins Returns have arrived. Here is your latest look at the new adventures on Cherry Tree Lane with the practically flawless nanny. Until then, here's the official trailer and poster for Mary Poppins Returns direct from Walt Disney Pictures.

Mary Poppins Returns is directed by Rob Marshall.

"One never discusses a woman's age, Michael", Blunt's Poppins retorts.

All that's missing is Dick Van Dyke - but not for long. With Emily Blunt playing the iconic Mary Poppins and Broadway legend Lin-Manuel Miranda playing the children and Mary's friend, Jack, the sequel was certainly stacked with talent in its male and female leads. I don't want it to be, 'Oh, here comes that Mary Poppins.' I don't want that.

This movie is shaping up to be a brilliant new adventure with Mary Poppins, and even better, the sequel seems to have the approval from key players involved in the first film.

Mary and Jack: The original Mary Poppins hit theaters in 1964, starring Julie Andrews as the title character and Dick Van Dyke as the chimney sweep Burt.
