Samsung Galaxy Note 9 burst into flames inside woman's purse, claims lawsuit

Samsung's exploding phone nightmare is back Galaxy Note 9 burns in woman's purse

The New York Post reports Diane Chung was riding the elevator up to her apartment in Bayside, Queens, when her phone became too warm to use.

Back in 2016, Samsung faced a growing crisis after dozens of confirmed reports of exploding batteries inside it's latest phone at the time the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

A woman from NY suffered the shock of her life when a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 burst into flames in her purse. She had burned her fingers trying to retrieve the phone and it, along with the other contents of her bag, poured onto the floor.

She then heard whistling and screeching sound as smoke appeared from her purse, the woman alleges.

Chung emptied the purse, but a fire had started. In addition, she said that the thick smoke made it tough to see, and she began to smash elevator buttons. The suit then claims that a "good Samaritan" noticed the burning phone and doused it into a bucket of water, ending the ordeal. Samsung claims that the batteries of all smartphones post Note 9 undergo eight-point check. "We have not received any reports of similar incidents involving a Galaxy Note 9 device and we are investigating the matter".

She explains the whole incident to be "traumatic", and mentions in the lawsuit that the fire ruined everything that was inside her bag.

However, responding to this incident the CEO Koh Dong-jin has said "The battery in the Galaxy Note 9 is safer than ever". Samsung has been confident about the battery inside the Galaxy Note 9, which is also why the company introduced a large 4,000mAh capacity, the biggest yet for a Galaxy smartphone. "Users do not have to worry about the batteries anymore". "All confirmed issues are related to pre-orders placed directly with Samsung; individuals claiming to be affected say they have so far only been offered a $25 discount code on their next purchase as an apology for the issue".
