Texas board of ed drops Hillary Clinton, Helen Keller from history classes

Texas Board Votes To Cut Hillary Clinton, Helen Keller From History Courses

(Washington Examiner) Hillary Clinton could soon disappear from the history curriculum in Texas.

The State of Texas has voted to remove Hillary Clinton, former US senator, Secretary of State and the first woman to be nominated by a major political party for president, from its history books.

Additionally, the board is refusing to make several other changes to the curriculum recommended by experts for elimination, including the deletion of references to "Judeo-Christian values", and the alleged influence of Moses on the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The board called the changes an effort to "streamline" Texas public schools' curriculum.

The board voted to keep the reference to Judeo-Christian values and their impact on the shaping of the United States history and political discourse. Both said the state required students to learn about so many historical figures that it resulted in rote memorization of dates and names instead of real learning.

So, the volunteer work group was tasked with creating a rubric for grading historical figures to deem who was "essential" to learn about and who wasn't.

China raises tariffs on $60b of US goods in technology trade fight
China had already gone blow for blow with the United States on tariffs on more than $ 50 billion of each other's goods this year. The lower Chinese figure highlights Beijing's inability to match the United States dollar-for-dollar in a tariffs war.

The group estimated that removing Clinton from the curriculum would save teachers 30 minutes of instructional time and eliminating Keller would save 40 minutes.

However, contrary to the claims of multiple Clinton's defenders, her absence from the education-board approved list does not prevent teachers from mentioning Clinton's political work in other contexts rather than specifically focusing on her role as the first woman to win the nomination.

Out of more than 140 individuals appointed to the panels, only three are current faculty members at Texas colleges and universities.

Keller, who was a political activist and the first deaf and blind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree, scored a seven. The group would ponder things like whether the historical figure triggered a watershed change or if he or she were from an underrepresented group. The curriculum will also require students to explain how the "Arab rejection of the State of Israel has led to ongoing conflict" in the Middle East. By the group's gauge, Clinton received just 5 points out of 20; Keller got 7.

In June, one committee, following direction from the board, reversed a recommendation by a different committee to remove the late evangelist Billy Graham from the mandatory list, according to the Austin American-Statesman reports. The board, however, added language that the expansion of slavery was the central cause of the Civil War.
