Vikings concerned about DE Everson Griffen's well-being

Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen is away from the team now, as he addresses his mental health.

Griffen was withheld from Sunday's 27-6 loss to the previously winless Buffalo Bills at U.S. Bank Stadium because of a knee injury and did not attend the game because of what the team called a personal issue.

Vikings security chief Kim Klawiter told police that Griffen wasn't "acting normal lately" and that "it's nearly like he's having a nervous breakdown". Pico told police that upon meeting Griffen at the hotel, the defensive end forgot why he wanted to speak to him and did not want to talk to him anymore. Additionally, Klawiter told police that the organization was anxious that Griffen could hurt himself, as well as his wife and children, according to the report.

The Vikings have not identified specifics of any ailment or mental disorder Griffen has or is being treated for at this time, only saying he's going through "a tough time".

After being ordered off the practice field, Griffen's downward spiral continued over a period of several hours on Saturday, according to police reports and a source. Staff members even moved to the back of the office at one point as Griffen was pacing around in the lobby, according to the report, which added Griffen made other assault threats and was laying on the lobby floor at other times. He was subsequently placed in an ambulance for transport to Fairview Southdale hospital in Edina. The 30-year-old is reportedly undergoing a mental health evaluation at a local hospital.

Vikings director of security Kim Klawiter requested a welfare check for Griffen's wife, Tiffany, and their three children after a recent pattern of erratic and disruptive behavior at team headquarters had caused concern. He later boarded the ambulance and rode the rest of the way to Fairview with a police escort. "In the long run, he's a really good kid".

United States rate hike in the cards as Fed holds policy meeting
The rate hike was the third this year and the seventh in the last eight quarters. There were no dissents in the Fed's policy statement.

A police report says a person at the hotel was "verbally threatening to shoot someone" on Saturday afternoon.

"Yeah, the only thing we're really concerned about for Everson isn't really anything to do with football", Zimmer said Tuesday. "It's about him getting better", Zimmer said.

"So we're going to do everything possible that we can, not only for Everson, but to help everybody on our team and, quite honestly, with their families as well".

"We are aware of the situation involving Everson Griffen and certainly concerned by what we have heard", Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said in a statement Monday night. Multiple professional athletes live in the hotel. He signed a $58 million, four-year contract extension in 2017 and had a career-high 13 sacks that season.

The three-time Pro Bowl player was picked up and questioned by Minneapolis police after the two incidents, according to The Big Lead.
