DC Circuit receives complaints about Kavanaugh, reportedly sends them to Supreme Court

President Donald Trump speaks during a rally at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs Iowa

Questioned if the Senate leader should play a bigger role pushing back against Trump's more combative rhetoric on minorities and other groups at a time of steep polarization, McConnell dismissed the need for such interventions.

"Rather than granting these nominees lifetime authority to threaten Americans' voting rights and health care, we should start over with two different candidates who can earn consensus", he argued.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote in the special election, the top two vote-getters will face one another in a runoff on November 27.

Leaders of the Republican Party of Alaska following outraged constituents are now considering whether and how to reprimand Murkowski, the Associated Press reported. Chief Justice John Roberts transferred the complaints to a court in Denver so they could be handled by a court that hasn't worked with Kavanaugh.

McConnell told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday that "She's certainly going to recover". He pointed out that Murkowski won re-election as a write-in vote in 2010.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), a fellow moderate who joined Collins a year ago to help defeat the GOP Senate's Obamacare overhaul bill, voted with Republicans. "She's about as strong as you can possibly be in Alaska. I'm proud she's in the Republican conference", he added.

"I'm just saying you have forces saying things that were evil", Trump said.

Recusal demands by Kavanaugh critics including Democratic lawmakers and liberal commentators focused on two main areas: certain cases involving Trump himself; and cases involving Democratic Party lawmakers or interests, considering Kavanaugh's angry remarks about Democrats during a September 27 Senate hearing.

Kavanaugh was confirmed by a razor-thin 50-48 majority in the U.S. Senate following accusations of sexual misconduct, including one of sexual assault as a high-schooler, that he emphatically denied.

Exactly four weeks before the midterm elections that will decide whether his Republican party continues to control Congress, Trump traveled here, just east of the Missouri River, to campaign for GOP incumbents in three highly competitive House races and for Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds. There are 100 Senators, two from each state, and Republicans now hold a razor thin majority with 51 seats.

The 76-year-old McConnell, who's been in the Senate since 1985 and majority leader since 2015, said he wants more women in the Senate and on the Judiciary Committee in particular.

At a political rally in Iowa on Tuesday, Trump alleged Feinstein leaked the allegation to sink Kavanaugh's confirmation.

Kavanaugh, who came under fire after being accused of alleged sexual assault against Christine Blasey Ford and several other women, promised to diversify the ranks by hiring more women as clerks if he became a justice.
