For those without much, Hurricane Michael creates hardship

Florida

Michael smashed into Florida's western coast last Wednesday, packing winds of 155 miles (250 kilometers) an hour as it began a northern march through several states, killing at least 18 people, according to USA media reports.

Communication in and out of Mexico Beach is near impossible. Eighteen-wheelers were scattered in a parking lot like children's toys.

Trump also saw the heavy damage inflicted on Tyndall Air Force Base.

Before he left, the president told reporters he had spoken with Saudi Arabia's king, who vehemently denies any knowledge about the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The view on the drive toward Panama City included houses smashed by trees, bent billboards and a demolished trailer park.

Reporters trailing Mr. Trump flew over Panama City and Mexico Beach and observed thousands of uprooted trees stacked in uneven rows, homes with roofs ripped open or missing completely.

A resourceful Florida couple, trapped in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, sent out a satellite SOS, spelling out the word HELP with logs.

Nanya Thompson, 68, of Lynn Haven, said of the president: "He's doing this, I believe, to project a different image of himself because of all the bad publicity he's had".

Trump told the CBS news show 60 Minutes in an interview broadcast Sunday that he does not know if global waning is manmade, despite the scientific research showing that pollution and human activity is the major contributor.

With most Mexico Beach homes already searched for survivors, rescue workers were using dogs to find any bodies that might be buried under the debris. People were also grappling with widespread cellphone outages.

Jamal Khashoggi's family is 'traumatized,' wants 'independent' and 'international' probe
Cengiz waits for him outside for four hours, but he never comes out and is told by consulate staff that he left out a back door. Mr Trump has said Saudi Arabia could face "severe punishment" if it was proven it was involved in Khashoggi's disappearance.

President Donald Trump on Monday met with victims of Hurricane Michael in devastated areas of Florida and Georgia but again cast doubt on the scientific consensus that climate change is caused by human activity.

"Gov. Rick Scott has done an incredible job", Trump said.

"You're a great Governor".

Trump, standing beside Scott, a fellow Republican who is running for the US Senate in the November 6 congressional elections, said the day's biggest objective was "just making sure everyone is safe, that they're fed".

"Our big thing is feeding, water and safety", Mr. Trump said after landing at Eglin Air Force Base in Okaloosa County, where he boarded a helicopter to survey the devastation.

Trump tweeted before leaving the White House that he will meet with law enforcement and government officials involved in the massive recovery effort. The storm has killed at least 18 people, a number that officials say is likely to rise as emergency crews work to reach some of the hardest-hit areas.

Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted that "3,000 people did not die" in the hurricanes that hit the island a year ago. "We are with you!"

As US president Donald Trump visited the devastated zone, the death toll from Michael's march from Florida to Virginia stood at 17, and the search for victims continues. Mexico Beach has not confirmed any deaths from the storm, but Cathey said, "If we lose only one life, to me that's going to be a miracle".
