Has Theresa May promised to end austerity?

‘Dancing Theresa May’ urges unity for Brexit talks

The Conservative Party must be "comfortable with modern Britain in all of its diversity" if it is to win the next election, Theresa May will say today.

May took on her detractors in a punchy address to the party's annual conference, a day after a rival, former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, challenged her authority with a speech of his own.

"All we want her to do is listen to members of her party who overwhelmingly want her to "Chuck Chequers".

To standing ovations, cheers and laughter, Johnson, May's most powerful critic in her governing party, said her so-called Chequers plan to leave the European Union was a "cheat" that would leave Britain "locked in the tractor beam of Brussels".

"We have had disagreements in this party about Britain's membership of the European Union for a long time". She entered to the Abba song "Dancing Queen", doing a little jig while taking the podium in reference to her recent display of dance moves on a visit to Nigeria.

In an upbeat message to activists and voters, she declared: "If we come together, there is no limit to what we can achieve".

"The absence of any acknowledgement of Chequers from the PM's speech makes it obvious that she knows that Chequers in not overwhelmingly popular", said Mr Kawczynski.

James Duddridge, the MP for Rochford and Southend, made headlines on Wednesday morning by announcing that he had written a letter to Sir Graham Brady, the chair of the powerful backbench 1922 committee, demanding a vote of no confidence in the prime minister. "Don't let anyone tell you we don't have what it takes: we have everything we need to succeed".

Journalists, analysts, politicians and others have reacted to the speech, and Mrs May's awkward dancing as she was announced at the conference in Birmingham.

"We must show everyone in this country that we are that party".

Donald Trump 'very proud' of Senate for advancing Kavanaugh nomination
Senate is expected to make its vote on Brett Kavanaugh , the judge spoke out for the first time following last week's hearing. Kavanaugh denied the allegation in testimony following Ford's , painting himself as the victim of a "political hit".

"So why we can think that Ireland is going to be such a disaster, I don't know".

Asked if that meant Labour was no longer committed to enacting Brexit, Mr Corbyn added: "Our party is determined to protect people's jobs and living standards and ensure that trade relationship with the EU".

May warns she will never accept a deal which infringes on British sovereignty and is calling for a transitional form of common market for goods between the European Union and all of the United Kingdom.

There is belief most of Theresa May's party will support her over Brexit. But she refused to rule it out, adding: 'The resilience and ingenuity of the British people would see us through'.

THERESA May has nicked Jeremy Corbyn's campaign slogan - rejigging it to tell her party she wants "everyone" in Britain.

The Local Government Association which represents hundreds of town halls and city halls, described her decision to lift the borrowing cap for building houses as fantastic.

Away from politics, the Confederation of British Industry director general Carolyn Fairbairn, said: "The Prime Minister's unambiguous call to back business is welcome". If we all go off in our different directions...we risk ending up with no Brexit at all.' But was it enough to bind all the flailing, angry limbs of our political ecosystem? But they don't agree on how to achieve that, and the issue remains the biggest obstacle to a deal.

If May accepts the invitation, she will have a chance to convince her peers a breakthrough in the search for a negotiated Brexit is possible and a deal can be finalized before Britain leaves the bloc at the end of March.

"A decade after the financial crash, people need to know that the austerity it led to is over", she said. You tell us, essentially, the same story - that the British are proposing unrealistic terms that they can't get.
