Heat-Timberwolves deal collapsed over weekend

Wojnarowski also reported that the Timberwolves are kind of relying on the Heat to be a trade partner right now, because the rest of the market for Butler has dried up. Minnesota shared Butler's medical info with Miami, owners were involved and sides prepared to finalize.

The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson confirmed the reports.

"Minnesota has been engaged with no serious talks elsewhere on Butler, with teams believing that a Miami deal was inevitable and the Timberwolves steep asking price often remaining a non-starter in talks", Wojnarowski wrote, citing league sources. The Timberwolves reportedly asked for more, and that's what caused the Heat to back out of the deal.

"Talks between the two teams could restart again, but it appears there would need to be a resetting process, league sources said".

Jimmy Butler was open to trading his 'Wolves kit for one of those snazzy Miami Vice singlets, and it nearly happened too.

Butler made it clear last month after showdown talks with Tom Thibodeau that he wants to leave.

I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway.

It has been almost three weeks since Jimmy Butler requested a trade from the Timberwolves, and although the Timberwolves were close to a trade this weekend, Butler is still on the team and uncertainty clouds his immediate future.

Butler made the All-Star team for his fourth-straight season previous year. He can become an unrestricted free agent next summer if he declines his player option for 2019-20.

In any deal with the Clippers, Minnesota would prefer to acquire forward Tobias Harris, sources said.

Other teams that may have interest in Butler include the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers.

At this point, it is still likely Butler gets dealt.
