Mitch McConnell: 'We Are Committed to Helping the President Get Wall Funding'

The Coming Red Tide

Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has been sworn in -again - at an event at the White House, but not before President Donald Trump slammed Kavanaugh's opponents for a "campaign of personal destruction". Kavanaugh was confirmed 50-48 by the Senate on Saturday, with just one Democrat supporting him. "The other side did it", he told reporters after the swearing-in ceremony at the White House. "The Constitution gives the Senate an important role in the confirmation process, but you have replaced advise and consent with search and destroy".

"I take this office with gratitude and no bitterness. My focus now is to be the best justice I can be", he said.

Mr Kavanaugh now moves to the Supreme Court after spending 12 years as a judge on the influential US Court of Appeals in Washington, where he built a conservative judicial record and a reputation for being affable and well prepared.

A week-long FBI investigation into the accusations found no evidence of misconduct on Mr Kavanaugh's part, prompting Donald Trump to declare - incorrectly - on Monday that his nominee had been "proven innocent".

New Justice Brett Kavanaugh says the Supreme Court "is not a partisan or political institution", and is promising to "always be a team player on a team of nine".

"She's certainly going to recover", he said.

Fox News' Harris Faulkner asked McDaniel for her thoughts on a recent CNN poll that showed 58 percent of Americans disapproved of the way Democrats handled the Kavanaugh nomination, with only 30 percent approving.

McConnell's remarks were viewed as a signal that he would be open to filling a potential Supreme Court vacancy in 2020. Kavanaugh emphatically denied the allegations.

At the mention of Feinstein, who is the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee and the lawmaker whom Trump has accused of leaking to the media Christine Blasey Ford's allegation that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her, the crowd here chanted "lock her up!" - a phrase that previously had been reserved for 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. He has already hired four women to serve as his Supreme Court clerks, something that he noted Monday evening was a first, and has studied the legal briefs for the cases on deck.

Both Republicans and Democrats are reporting a massive fundraising surge in the past few weeks as a result of the bitter and contentious confirmation process for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh - but Republicans seem to have the edge.

Ultimately, every Democrat voted against Kavanaugh except for Sen. "No one who felt the force of that anger could possibly believe that Kavanaugh might actually be a detached and impartial judge".

Kavanaugh replaces Kennedy, a conservative jurist who often cast the deciding swing vote on ideologically divisive issues, upholding abortion and gay rights and the use of affirmative action aiding racial minorities in college admissions.
