Susan Collins says she’s getting positive response from Mainers after vote

UN Ambassador Susan Rice arrives for a meeting on Capitol Hill in Washington with Sen. Susan Collins R Maine and Sen. Corker R-Tenn. to discuss the Benghazi terrorist attack

Democrat Congressman Eric Swalwell of California apologized - kind of - to Republican Senator Susan Collins after he ripped her for voting to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. The Bangor Daily News reported that the senator was greeted by protesters when she switched planes in Philadelphia while traveling from Washington, D.C.to ME on Saturday night following the final vote on Kavanaugh.

"She says that Dr. Ford thinks that she was assaulted, which is even more insulting than saying that she gave a very credible account", Hirono told CNN on Sunday of her GOP colleague, who helped pave the way for Kavanaugh's confirmation by a 50-48 Senate vote on Saturday.

"I have met with so many Mainers that were sexual assault survivors", she told the TV station. Even before Collins had announced her "yes" vote for Kavanaugh, the page had raised $2 million-declaring, "Either Collins VOTES NO on Kavanaugh, or we fund her future opponent".

The senator announced this past Friday that she'd support Kavanaugh.

"I found Dr. Ford's testimony to be heart-wrenching, painful, compelling, and I believe that she believes what she testified to", she said. At some of those parties, she alleged, Kavanaugh was "fondling and grabbing girls without their consent" and, along with others, spiking drinks to force girls to lose their inhibitions.

Collins returned to ME late Saturday after Kavanaugh was sworn into office.

Collins said she read "every word" and found no evidence corroborating Christine Blasey Ford's allegation that Kavanaugh tried to rape her when they were in high school.

1st Test: Australia face tough task after Sohail hits maiden ton
Pakistan lost their last six wickets for 72 runs, including the run outs of Babar Azam (four) and skipper Sarfraz Ahmed for 15. Pakistan began day two at 255/3 with Haris Sohail and Mohammad Abbas on the crease.

Steve Nason, 44, said he had always questioned Ms. Collins' claims to be a moderate but that her speech impressed him with its thoroughness and thoughtfulness.

The emergence of a crowded field in a Senate contest two years away underscores the extraordinary political moment triggered by the debate over Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Gideon, who's often clashed with outgoing Republican Gov. Paul LePage, said she's focused on winning more Democratic seats in the Maine House for now. "Everybody knows that", Ms. Collins said. She gave an impassioned, handsome speech yesterday. "The country needed what Susan Collins provided today - reason, facts and an understanding of who we are as a nation".

"It's too soon to say what I might do", Hannah Pingree told the AP.

Democrats charged that the White House prevented the Federal Bureau of Investigation from doing a thorough probe that might have run down leads, and multiple Yale classmates of Kavanaugh's tried to contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation but say they were not interviewed.

"The most hard in the 22 years I've been honored to represent the State of Maine in the United States Senate".

In an appearance Sunday, Ms. Collins said she wasn't backing down. But the Christian Right didn't push for Kavanaugh's confirmation so aggressively because they think he shares the more libertarian views that retired Justice Anthony Kennedy had on abortion rights; Kavanaugh was nominated because he is an "originalist" or "strict constructionist" and a hardcore social conservative.
