Third-gen Chromecast sold early by Best Buy

Chromecast 3rd Gen

Google is having an event on October 9th, where they will be showing off the new Pixel 3 phones as well the latest Chromecast 3.

Maybe we'll get lucky and come back from NY with the new Chromecast. A Reddit user who goes by the alias GroveStreetHomie apparently walked into a Best Buy store to buy a Chromecast 2, instead he walked out with the unreleased Chromecast 3 for the same price.

Based on the images, which were earlier published by Android Police, it appears the new Chromecast will come with a matte finish instead of the glossy design on the previous model.

Stay tuned to Digital Trends for updates on Google's October 9 event and the new devices we expect to see.

Quake off Indonesian island brings down 'many buildings'
Indonesia is prone to quake as it lies on a vulnerable quake-affected area popularly known as "the Pacific Ring of Fire ". An eyewitness from the Donggala town said that everything in his house started shaking and he ran outside.

I went to Best Buy earlier to pick up a Chromecast for my new TV, then I noticed the packaging and design was different from my first one. Google Chromecast second-generation is now available in India for roughly Rs 3,000. The Chrome logo on the top has been replaced with a subtle G icon, matching the Pixel lineup. For the last few months, this new Chromecast has been popping up in FCC databases with an additional Bluetooth feature, and now it looks like it's finally launching.

GroveStreetHomie said he could not use the device yet, however - it requires an update via the Google Home app that hasn't been released yet.

The Best Buy employee serving him at the time tried to ring up his order, only to find out that the device wasn't found in the outlet's outgoing sales list.

It's not clear what Google's plans are for a Bluetooth-enabled Chromecast, but the obvious application would be some kind of remote or game controller. Since it has been a couple of years since the Chromecast Ultra was announced, we expected a replacement, and aside from confirming the dongle's existence, an FCC filing reveals the new Chromecast will support Bluetooth outside of utilizing it exclusively for setup.
