Trump Faces the Khashoggi Affair

Steven Mnuchin

The Saudis are preparing a report that will acknowledge that Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's death was the result of an interrogation that went wrong, one that was meant to lead to his abduction from Turkey, according to two sources.

The other source said the report would likely conclude that the operation was carried out without clearance and that those involved will be held responsible, the cable news outlet said.

Joe Lieberman, a former Democratic senator from CT who became an independent, said the disappearance and suspected murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi are "troubling", but until facts are established, the United States shouldn't destroy its relationship with Saudi Arabia.

The president provided no evidence to back his comment, but said that during a phone call the Saudi King had firmly denied knowing what had happened to Mr Khashoggi.

The controversy has troubled Saudi's traditional Western allies - who are key arms suppliers to the kingdom - and also undermined efforts by Mohamed bin Salman to present himself as a modernising ruler. "Together we can prove our unity and that we cannot be bullied", he said in a Twitter post. Fears are growing over the fate of missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi after Turkish officials said they believe he was murdered inside the Saudi consulate.

In a "60 Minutes" interview that aired on Sunday, Trump said there would be consequences if it turned out Saudi Arabia had anything to do with Khashoggi's mysterious disappearance.

October 7: Saudi government officials deny involvement in Khashoggi's disappearance after reports that he was killed.

"Canada remains very troubled by the disappearance of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and calls for a through, credible and transparent investigation into the serious allegations about Mr. Kashoggi's disappearance".

"If US sanctions are imposed on Saudi Arabia, we will be facing an economic disaster that would rock the entire world", said Aldakhil. Trump is sending Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to meet with the king on the issue.

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson Split, Engagement Called Off
After Miller's passing Grande chose not to make any public appearances or attend the Emmy awards with Davidson, according to ET . And while the couple may be over for now, TMZ says they "aren't ruling out the possibility of anything in the future".

Officially entitled the Future Finance Initiative, the Saudi conference describes itself as an "international platform for expert-led debate between investors, innovators and governments as well as economic leaders".

"It has been 13 days since the event, so surely proving some of the evidence might be hard, but we believe we will obtain evidence", a Turkish official told Reuters.

On Monday, President Donald Trump suggested "rogue killers" could be behind Mr Khashoggi's disappearance.

Turkish officials have said Khashoggi was murdered inside the consulate, where he went to get documents for his planned marriage.

Khashoggi, a Saudi national and US resident who has been a vocal press critic of Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has not been seen since entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

The alleged hit squad was sent from Saudi Arabia and organized the killing. Video footage showed him arriving but not departing.

Turkish and Saudi law enforcement officials started to conduct a joint inspection of the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul yesterday as Daily Sabah went to press, almost two weeks after the disappearance of Khashoggi.

Erdoğan stressed forming a joint working group to probe the case, said a Turkish presidential source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to media.
