Venom Sets October Box Office Record With $80 Million Opening Weekend

'Venom' sets October record with US$80M; 'Star Is Born' soars

This effectively topples the previous October opening weekend record set by Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity when it earned $55.8 million in 2013. Meanwhile, Venom has earned 125.2 million dollars worldwide.

As reported by CNN, Venom will bow with an $80 million weekend.

"Venom" pulled off its big box office success despite some terrible reviews.

According to estimates Sunday, the two very different films fueled an unusually robust October weekend at the North American box office.

Brett Kavanaugh sworn in as 114th Supreme Court justice
On Friday Morning, Murkowski was the only Republican to vote against a procedural move advancing Kavanaugh's nomination. Now that Senate passed its cloture motion, the final vote on confirmation will sometime on Saturday.

Despite receiving a bad critical score (31% rotten), Venom now holds an 88% "fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes, while "A Star Is Born" has received a 92% fresh critic score on the website. However, it was the exact opposite, setting an October box office record and an audience "fresh" score of 89%. All of which suggests the aliens are going to absolutely love the Venom/A Star Is Born cross-over film someone is frantically pitching as we speak. In stark contrast to the overall critical reception, the audience score on the review aggregator is almost 90%.

Venom has finally got his own movie and though it doesn't feature the cameo from Tom Holland's wall-crawler that we were all hoping for, it's still stuffed full of references to the sinister symbiote's history in the pages of Spider-Man comics. However, the role also came with a bit of pressure, especially because Shangela said Gaga "handpicked" her to be in the film.

The third movie in the Rowan Atkinson-starring spy comedy opened to £4.1 million, over a million more than Bradley Cooper's drama.
