Apple Reportedly Halts Additional iPhone XR Production

Report: Apple cancels iPhone XR production boost

Since it's the cheapest of the new iPhone trio, you'd expect the iPhone XR to be the best selling of the bunch, but apparently that's not how things work in Apple land. According to sources in the supply chain, smaller iPhone assembler Wistron was asked to stand by for rush orders, but after the decision of cancelling the production boost, it is not likely to receive any orders this holiday season.

Pegatron has already solved the issue of labor shortage at its plants in China and has made prompt shipments allowing its major brand client to start delievering its new smartphone models in late October, according to company chairman TH Tung.

The report, in Nikkei, states that demand for the iPhone XR has been "disappointing".

While Apple had great expectations for the iPhone XR, it's now ordering more iPhone 8 and 8 Plus models from its partners. However, it is now using only around 45 lines and does not require any additional production capacity. All told, Nikkei's source claims that overall iPhone XR production may be anywhere from 20% to 25% lower than initial estimates. That's down 20% to 25% compared to Apple's most optimistic prognosis.

Other iPhone manufacturers face similar issues. And at a starting price of $749, it's the most affordable new iPhone on store shelves.

USA sanctions against Iran takes effect, 8 countries get waivers
The incident made Iran an global pariah and caused a diplomatic schism between the two countries that has remained to this day. Other parties to the deal, including Britain, France, Germany, China and Russian Federation , have said they will not leave.

Last Friday, Apple shares had fallen sharply, dragging the USA tech major's market value below $1 trillion after the company forecast softer-than-expected sales for the holiday quarter and fueled nerves over iPhone sales by saying it would no longer release the figures.

This, combined with the rapid rise of China-based handset makers like Huawei, may also help explain why Apple will no longer provide iPhone unit sales figures: The firm is no longer the number two player in the smartphone market and may fall to number four or five in the coming year by unit sales.

Interestingly, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have had orders increase by more than 5 million units.

This information may help explain why Apple provided a dim forecast for iPhone sales in the current quarter.
