Coli outbreak possibly linked to romaine lettuce in California, FDA official says

Romaine

The Public Health Agency of Canada has confirmed three more cases in the current E. coli outbreak associated with romaine lettuce.

The Public Health Agency of Canada there is no evidence to suggest that residents outside of Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick are affected by the outbreak and no advisories have been issued in Nova Scotia.

The agency said the current outbreak is unrelated to another multi-state rash of E. coli infections related to romaine lettuce earlier this year that left five people dead and sickened almost 200.

The crop is mostly grown in Arizona and California, Warriner said, which is also cattle country. The sick have ranged from 7 to 84 years of age. That outbreak occurred around the same time a year ago, which Gottlieb said was associated with the end of California's harvest season.

There are now 32 confirmed cases of E. coli in 11 states and on Friday, the commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said that the romaine implicated likely comes from California because of growing and harvesting patterns.

Ireland thrash U.S. as Schmidt drops biggest hint
The Ireland head coach's contract expires after next year's World Cup in Japan, and next week he will announce his decision on his long-term movements.

People living in those provinces should avoid eating romaine lettuce for now, the agency said.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently warned American consumers not to eat romaine lettuce after the plant was found to be the source of E. coli infections in multiple states.

Tracing a person's food history involves interviewing them about what they ate and where, Njoo said.

There has been a romaine lettuce recall in the United States and a warning issued in Canada after a wave of food poisoning incidents. A common source of E. coli illness is raw fruits and vegetables that have come in contact with feces from infected animals. Well, this present outbreak has been caused by a different strain than the one that took place this summer, but this present strain is similar to last year's outbreak caused by leafy greens. Individuals became sick between mid-October and early November 2018. There is no real treatment for E. coli infections, other than monitoring the illness, providing comfort, and preventing dehydration through proper hydration and nutrition.

If you have eaten this product but have no symptoms, there is no need to do anything.
