Foyth's first goal for Tottenham enough to sink Palace

Spurs won a scrappy encounter at a sodden Selhurst Park thanks to Juan Foyth's second-half header, sealing some impressive redemption for the defender.

His second game in England's top flight went a whole lot better.

Crystal Palace (2-7-2) comes into Saturday's contest 14th in the Premier League table and is winless in its last six games (0-5-1), with the lone draw a surprise 2-2 result vs. Arsenal.

Foyth had made his league debut for Spurs last weekend and conceded two penalties which nearly allowed Wolves to get something from that game.

Signed from Estudiantes in the 2017 offseason, Foyth is getting a run in the first team only because of an injury crisis that has robbed Tottenham this season of nine of its 12 players who featured in the World Cup in Russian Federation. Kieran Trippier is recalled at right-back with Serge Aurier dropping out while Hugo Lloris is recalled in goal after missing the PSV Eindhoven game in midweek through suspension. From 14 games overall this season, meanwhile, they have won just four.

Palace are yet to score a goal from open play at home in the league this season.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino now thinks that his flagship player is absolutely single-minded about getting goals on the ground, and also thinks about it much more than he should.

Wheelchair Stephen Hawking to be auctioned
Hawking lived most of his life with motor neurone disease, before dying at the age of 76 in March. The sale, run online by Christie's and including 52 lots, raised more than £1.8m on Thursday.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the 66th minute.

Roy Hodgson claimed after Palace's 3-1 loss to Chelsea last week that his side are performing well enough in matches to suggest that they will easily beat the drop this season.

Lewis Dunk put Brighton in front in the sixth minute at the Cardiff City Stadium when headed home from Solly March's free-kick.

But Brighton had Dale Stephens sent off six minutes later for a rash challenge and Bamba found the victor in the 90th minute to lift Cardiff up to 18th.

Elsewhere, Huddersfield's Aussie midfielder Aaron Mooy starred as the EPL strugglers earned a valuable point against West Ham.

But, with his team struggling to convince at Selhurst Park, the 20-year-old Argentinian demonstrated an unrivalled hunger and desire to seize on the loose ball and head home the goal that secured all three points.

Tottenham have been far from their sparkling best so far this season, but it's worth nothing they are fourth in the Premier League and still fighting to qualify out of their hard Champions League group.
