Google workers stage walkout over company's handling of sexual harassment

The Google protest is billed Walkout For Real Change

Employees in the Tokyo, Singapore, Berlin, London, Dublin and NY offices have already taken part, with California expected to follow suit.

Pichai has met with Google employees about the issue since The New York Times reported last week that a senior Google employee, Android creator Andy Rubin, received an exit package worth $90 million as he faced allegations of misconduct, and that Google had covered up other claims of sexual harassment.

In a pinned tweet on the Google Walkout Twitter account, the company's workers laid out their demands, including an end to forced arbitration in sexual assault cases, assault transparency reports from Google and a new process for reporting assault anonymously.

Despite framing itself as a champion of the #MeToo movement thousands of Google employees have staged a walkout to protest the company's failure to address issues of sexual harassment, gender inequality, and pay disparities.

Google employees around the world walked out of their offices on Thursday in a global protest over how the company deals with sexual harassment.

Protesters also want the company's chief diversity officer to answer directly to the CEO and an employee representative placed on Google's board.

On Wednesday, Pichai told the New York Times that the company's management was aware of the coming walkouts and that employees would "have the support they need if they wish to participate".

Russian Federation releases video showing Soyuz rocket failure as it happened
Russian Federation is the only country now able to send crew to the ISS, after Nasa's Space Shuttle programme ended in 2011. Since then, Nasa has paid Russian Federation for seats on its Soyuz rockets to ferry its astronauts to the station.

Google workers, from Singapore to Switzerland, started walking out of the office at 11:10 their respective time zones.

The organizers behind the walkouts called for five concrete changes to Google's company policy. Google maintains 23 offices in the US, three in Canada, and more than 50 others around the globe. A flyer left at employees' desks explains that they've left in protest of the lack of transparency surrounding sexual assault cases. "I know they've been talking about this internally at Google, and so the day of, they were fully ready for this to happen", Fingas said.

The woman reported the incident two years later, but DeVaul remained in his post despite a Google human resources employee telling the woman that the company had taken "appropriate action", the newspaper said. An employee taking part told her: "I'm proud that we're now supporting everyone, and hopefully now gives them a voice which most seem to feel they have not had before".

Google staff around the world protesting against the company's record of sexual misconduct, and one protester has added a "Star Wars" twist. After an investigation, Google concluded that the woman's claims were credible, but instead of firing Rubin, Google asked him to quietly resign to avoid a press scandal.

Rubin denied the allegations in a tweet.

The Business Insider reporter Shona Ghosh was at Google's St Giles Street offices in London. After several employees resigned in protest over the program, Google said it would not renew its contract for Project Maven and released guidelines for the use of AI.
