Injured Nadal pulls out of ATP Tour Finals

Khachanov dominates in Paris

Unlike any other tour tournament, the ATP Finals has a round robin stage with the top two players of each group getting a spot in the semifinals.

The world No 2 cited an abdominal injury as the reason and then decided after consulting with his doctor in Barcelona that he would immediately undergo keyhole surgery on a separate issue in his right ankle. I have done everything possible to reach the end of the season in full fitness, both for Paris and London; I really wanted to play.

Rafael Nadal on Monday confirmed that he will miss the ATP Finals in London and announced the "end of the season" because of injury.

He added that he made a decision to have the ankle operation so he can start 2019 healthy.

He hasn't played since suffering injury in the US Open semi-final on September 7 and can't play in London due to an abdominal pain.

And knowing that it would not be delivered in time for the Masters in London, which begins next Sunday, he chose to have the surgery on the right ankle.

We had detected it a while ago and it occasionally bothered me.

"Hello everyone, thank you for the messages I received", he posted.

Gunmen grab 79 pupils and three staff from school in Cameroon
A video of some of the children, believed to have been filmed by one of the kidnappers, is being shared on social media. The Principal of the school, a driver and another teacher were also kidnapped, local sources confirmed.

That's because the man he overtook, Rafael Nadal, is done for 2018.

The Serbian will now become the first player since ATP rankings were introduced in 1973 to end the year at number one having started it outside the top 20.

Novak Djokovic is back at No. 1 in the ATP rankings after a two-year absence - and the first man in almost two decades to rise to the top spot after being outside the top 20 in the same season.

He was his usual dominant self on clay, collecting an 11th French Open title and three more titles along the way.

However, Nadal's primary focus once again next year may well be the clay season.

So yes, the Swiss legend, Roger Federer and the invincible man from Serbia, Novak Djokovic hold the crest at the tournament.

Novak Djokovic is the top seed in this group and is pitted against Alexander Zverev, Marin Cilic and John Isner, which on paper definitely looks like the tougher group of the two, especially given the surface and conditions.
