MS catches up with Apple in m-cap

Microsoft Briefly Surpasses Apple to Become Most Valuable Company in the US

According to Bloomberg, Apple's market cap fell to $812 billion during intraday trading Monday, while Microsoft's rose to $819 billion. That exceeded by more than $1 billion the value of Apple, which has tumbled this month on concern about iPhone unit sales. With the invention of agile cloud computing infrastructure and virtual reality making strides than ever imagined, Microsoft is reaching heights in its sales journey. That would put it below both Amazon.com Inc., now valued about $773 billion, and Google-parent Alphabet Inc., which has a market cap of about $732 billion.

Obviously, the value of major tech companies like Microsoft and Apple changes all the time, and Microsoft probably won't retain its position for long (Apple has already retaken its place as of writing).

In contrast to Apple, Microsoft has seen a resurgence in its fortunes, as the company reworked its strategy following a leadership change four years ago. Microsoft hasn't been at the top since the height of the dot-com boom in 2000. It's down 6.3 per cent since the start of October, while Apple has lost 23 per cent. But the fact that it hasn't done poorly is a reflection of its steady focus on business customers in recent years. This was particularly galling for the Redmond, Washington-based company because it once kept Apple afloat with a cash infusion in the 1990s.

Hear everything Chuck Liddell had to say at the Liddell vs Ortiz 3 post-fight press conference. Tito Ortiz made light of that earlier today, this after he tweeted the following to Jon Jones.

In 2018, when tech companies are caught up in trade wars and foreign election meddling, just going about your business is enough to stand out from the pack.

With that said, even though Microsoft is once again in second place, there's a good chance the tech giant will remain neck-and-neck with Apple for the foreseeable future. That's insulated Microsoft's stock from worries about declining consumer spending on devices and increased regulation of digital advertising businesses like Facebook Inc. and Alphabet Inc.'s Google.
